Farhan & Co power prison drama

First-time director Ranjit Tiwari's undemanding fairy tale ambles around an innocent convict discovering fame and friendship within high-security prison walls. Writer Aseem Arora's low-hanging ambitions and straightforward conflict between negotiators of harm and reform renders Lucknow Central a surprising watchability. A good portion of Lucknow Central, its most languid too, is dedicated to the set up triggered by a Moradabad native (Farhan Akhtar) and music band aspirant's life sentence for the murder of an IAS officer.(more)

Farhan Akhtar-starrer see-saws between musical drama, message film

Tiwaris handling of the jail scenes are commendable even if the climax is a little contrived. Ranjit Tiwari handles this aspect of human alienation and friendship, beautifully. His understated sensibility resonates with his talented star cast, starting with the very impressive Ronit Roy. The actor stands out as the curt, conniving and clever jailer. Sadly, his character is reduced to being a toothless tiger eventually.(more)

Farhan Akhtars jail break film lacks the sense of urgency

Though Tiwari tries to pay tribute to Orson Welles and Agneepath in his own way, nothing actually gives Lucknow Central the sense of urgency it needs to look like a jail break film. The screenplay is not convoluted, but its not coherent either. Its too simple a narrative to capture the audiences attention. We always know where it is heading.(more)

Outstanding Script Doubled With Stellar Performances

Lucknow Central (coincidentally) shares a major portion of its film premises with the recently released Qaidi Band, one just cannot deny the bare fact that the script (Ranjit Tiwari, Aseem Arora) of Lucknow Central, comes across as one of the most appealing scripts of the year. Even though Lucknow Central enjoys an identity of its own, comparisons are inevitable with films like Shawshank Redemption and our very own Qaidi Band, which did have a first mover advantage.(more)

Movie Review

Ranjit Tiwaris direction is simple but with such a flawed script, theres nothing much he could have done. Few scenes are well handled but they all get overshadowed by the many bad scenes. Aseem Arora's dialogues however are fine, especially the ones mouthed by Ravi Kishan.(more)
