This movie, largely has all the tricks to please even a discerning audience.

What 'Parmanu' lacks in detail and authenticity, it makes up with emotions and a sense of national pride. The narrative isnt explosive but it does have the dramatic moments to keep the viewer engaged. (more)

This John Abraham Show is effective and thrilling

What makes the film interesting is that while we know the climax - that India conducted the nuclear tests -- how it hoodwinked American spy satellites, beat on-field agents from US and Pakistan and executed the plan in lesser time while political upheavals threatened the government is all packed in a little over two hours.(more)

The climax of John Abraham's film keeps you hooked

It's a tricky situation. Parmanu is a film based on a real event not long ago. You can easily predict the direction of the wind. A structure is already developed. The only way to stop the audiences from losing interest is by keeping them thrilled. (more)

Billowing plume of jingoistic smoke

One can't expect the film to be a journalistic retelling. But nationalistic sentiments without nuance can only result in chest-thumping. Even if you look at Parmanu strictly as a spy/war thriller, it is simplistic, which paradoxically makes it engaging. Its efforts at building up a momentum of suspense is periodically successful, but impeded by faux sincerity that all actors project. (more)

Nothing explosive about this

Parmanu can scream 'desh' all it wants and turn up the volume as loud as it likes to make a big deal.' 'But it's ultimately a cursory glance at a tough tactical choice and tame recreation of a controversial reality whose face is a stiff star(more)

Burnt To A Crisp

It's hard to make something as political and technical as a country's nuclear ambitions look engaging without compromising on its inherent gravity(more)

Unintentionally funny while distorting facts

This academically presented film is shown using declassified military documents and footage that is targeted at inciting patriotic feelings among cinegoers who rarely get to see a detailed chronicle of the history of nuclear tests in India. In reality though, this 130-minute assault on the senses is less about misinforming the viewer with misrepresentation of facts and more about the unintentional humour that it rubs in: while all others like the US and Pakistan are fooled by the Indian intelligence, something as uncanny as the Indian agency coming out trumps looks unpersuasive and unbelievably far-fetched(more)

Don't Watch This For Anyone, Watch It For Your Country

Abhishek Sharma has managed to pull off a shocker with Parmanu - The Story Of Pokhran. He succeeds in making you bite your nails till the end. The entire 'blind spot' timing sequences of satellites have been executed so well. As the story builds up, one just tends to think how much this tale had to offer. It also makes you wonder how the story would've unfolded in real life. (more)

The John Abraham starrer is all surface, no depth

You will get the money shot of John Abraham and co. walking in slo-mo to swelling background music, enveloped in a comic book feel. You will not get crucial nuance and detail, essential requirements for a film to be to taken seriously.(more)

An excellent saga that has a big chance of working at the box office despite the low buzz

Saiwyn Quadras, Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh and Abhishek Sharmas dialogues are nothing great but look real and conversational. Abhishek Sharmas direction flows quite easily and is to the point. He very nicely packs in a lot in 130 minutes. However, one wishes if the tension levels could have gone higher. A film like this should have had more edge of the seat moments for an added impact. Also, though the team is shown facing roadblocks, it seemed a bit convenient at most places. Thankfully, the film has enough plusses that overpower these glitches. (more)

John Abraham's film sheds light on an important chapter in history but it is not without its flaws

The Story of Pokhran deserves your time for the sheer bravery of the officials who carried out the covert mission due to which India is taken seriously around the world. Parmanu is a historical thriller we didn't know we need. Watch it for those unsung heroes and take a moment to revel in the glory of their success.(more)
