Daddy Movie Review

If you like crime drama, Daddy is bound to fuel your imagination. Gawli is a part of India's crime-history. And this is the closest you will come to 'encountering' him.(more)

Arjun Rampal is romanticised as Gawli in this formula gangster film

The backstories of criminals often make for gripping films but Daddy fails there as well. With a sloppy storyline and over-dramatic dialogues, there is nothing fresh to watch in Daddy except for Arjun Rampal's performance and the film's surprise package Farhan Akhtar as Gawli's bte noire. Unfortunately, even they are not on top of their game.(more)

Arjun Rampal;s intense act elevates Ashim Ahluwalia's brave biopic

Daddy demands patient viewing as it sets out to explore a new story delivery style while tackling the ever-popular gangster genre. As it walks the fine line between judgement and glorification, Daddy often feels like a bunch of headlines stitched together with fine handwriting managing to suck you back into a time that has shaped modern Mumbai.(more)

Arjun Rampal is believable only in fits and starts

It's also the thickly-populated circuitous plot, which goes back and forth in time, which comes in the way of a solid crime thriller cum study of the making of a gangster. I ended up drinking in every single frame, and searching for a full film.(more)

Arjun Rampal Gives Arun Gawli New Life On Celluloid

For me, the real hero of Daddy, besides Rampal (and some, not all, of his co-actors) is the sound editor Sangik Basu followed by the cinematographer Jessica Lee Agne aided by Pankaj Kumar who bring to the frames a sinking feeling of an unwashed blood-soaked doom.(more)

Arjun Rampal shines as Arun Gawli

Gawli's arch-nemesis is called Maqsood in Daddy but the animosity is evident in every frame that director Ashim Ahluwalia places Arjun Rampal (in the role of Arun Gawli) and Farhan Akhtar (as Maqsood, a character based on Dawood Ibrahim) in.(more)

Movie Review

Arjun Rampal and Ashim Ahluwalia's story is weak and should have been detailed. The screenplay is average as it fails to put together the life of Arun Gawli in a cinematic format. Ritesh Shahs dialogues are strictly okay and fail to register.(more)

Arjun Rampal puts in a solid performance but it is the recreation of Mumbais bygone era that is applause-worthy

Arjun Rampal puts in an earnest performance, which picks up real momentum in the second half. He is matched in the acting department by Nishikant Kamat, who plays Inspector Vijaykar with aplomb. Supporting actors Rajesh Shringarpure and Anand Ingale suit their characters. There is some wry dark humour that makes you chuckle. The gang war scenes are deftly shot and Ashim manages to build tension every time Gawli reaches for his pistol. Sajid-Wajids background score is impactful though used a little too generously.(more)

Despite Arjuns Hard Hitting Performance, Screenplay Acts As A Letdown

The very thought behind the script of Daddy is one of the most hard hitting and powerful ones which one has come across in the recent times. Thanks to the thought, the film looks like a series of events which is happening in front of our eyes. One has to give it to Ashim Ahluwalia and Arjun Rampal for the kind of research behind the film.(more)
