Vidya Balan's performance is the saving grace of this predictable thriller

The one who keeps you watching is Balan. She puts behind her over-wrought turn in Hamari Adhuri Kahani and gets back to doing whats shes done well in the past giving us a solid, fleshed-out character with motivations she makes us see, and feel. After Kahaani, which took us into a fresh space, this one disappoints. If Ghosh does plan on making a third, hell have to up his game considerably.(more)

Vidya Balan Is Compelling, Arjun Rampal Effective

Kahaani 2 is what it is because of the power that Vidya Balan lends to it with a star turn that hinges on controlled underplaying. She surrenders herself completely to the character. Whether she is a frumpy school staffer passing herself off as a teacher or a battered and bloodied woman on the run, Balan is never less than astonishingly convincing. As far as thrillers go, Kahaani 2 isn't the last word. But it certainly isn't the same old story. Its understated style and riveting core make it well worth a watch. (more)

Kahaani 2 Review

Kahaani 2 is an excellently crafted thriller, which is bogged down by the curse of the second half. Its nonetheless a good weekend watch. (more)

KAHAANI 2 THRILLS BUT DOESN'T CHILL

Vidya, shorn of make-up and glamour breezes through her dual role in autopilot mode. Arjun impresses as the cop hankering for a promotion and is believable as the husband. If you have an appetite for thrillers (albeit, with some flaws) give this one a try. (more)

Kahaani 2 is let down by predictability

The idea of a woman refusing to let the truth die is compelling, and Balan is perfectly cast in the lead. Yet the film ultimately rings hollow. Ghosh throws in too much red herring bhaaja and, teasing twists that could have given us some final drama, shies away from a satisfying finish. There is a fine beat early in the film where Rampal asks a cop for a file to record evidence in, and is told by a very amused subordinate that nothing ever happens in Chandan Nagar. That is perhaps what we should remember while eagerly waiting for cleverness and sleight of hand from Ghosh's lovely, well-acted but vacant film. Forget it Jake, it's Chandan Nagar.(more)

Not a mother of all stories

Kahaani 2 is definitely below expectations, and will only excite you if you're a Vidya Balan fan, or if you watch it as a standalone mystery, unlike the nail biting prequel, Kahaani. (more)
