Kanche is a period love saga with a quite different backdrop.

Varun Tej is fitted perfectly in the role of Hari Babu. Both as solider in war zone, as besotted lover he is suited well. Pragya Jaiswal looks beautiful. Nikitin Dheer as villain, Avasarala Srinivas as timid soldier come up with decent performances. Veteran director Singeetam appears in a blink-and-miss act, Gollapudi and Shavakarju Janaki are good.(more)

Considering its budget constraints, the war episodes were visually great and we could see a lot of planning went in to it. Director Krish's interest for detailing helped a lot for the film to generate the entire mood and setting of the story, which is happening during the World War ll. (more)

Brave Attempt

Director Krish who always makes sure that content is strong in the film hasnt disappointed while choosing the story and premise. He has set up the basic love story that takes place in India in 1930s against the World War II events that takes place in 1940s using a spaced-flashback narration. The love story is nice. Nuances and differences of 1930s are shown in an interesting way in the first half. But when it came to the crux of the cinema (ending of the flashback and the ending of the war), the director didnt get the narration strong enough to make an emotional impact.(more)

Pushes the boundaries

Coming to the director Krish, he has done a decent job and nicely sets the film in the war backdrop. His screenplay is impressive but he falters in evoking much intensity from the war zone part and slows the film down during the second half. (more)

Literary, visual treat

Varun Tej surprises with his studied portrayal of a brave soldier with the heart of an idealist. Sai Madhav puts some of the most beautiful lines written for a Telugu film in recent times in his mouth. Krish ensures Varun's body language is old-fashioned where necessary. Pragya Jaiswal is good-looking and fits the bill. (more)
