No Fireworks

Since it is Akhil Akkineni�s first movie and raised humongous expectations among audiences and the trade circles, everyone was hoping to see a cracker of entertainment. Or even a regular but decent entertainer like Vinayak�s earlier movie Alludu Seenu. Akhil seemed a Deepavali bomb to explode in the box-office. But, what we get to see is totally different. (more)

Saving the world

The story of the film has international canvas and is about saving the world. Such an ambitious story needs classy execution in terms of screenplay and logic. VV Vinayak comes out of his comfort zone to choose such a subject. People don�t mind if a routine story is flawed and executed in a routine way.(more)

'Akhil' falls short of expectations

Usually V.V. Vinayak is a safe bet as a director and any film of his is almost a guaranteed hit. But after watching Akhil, one is compelled to ask, �what happened to Vinayak?�. The film doesn�t carry Vinayak�s stamp at all. Given that it is the launch of a big star son, (Nagarjuna), one would expect a stronger storyline. (more)

The curse of the scale

Akhil especially has to do so much of the larger than life courtesies that actors in their late 20s and mid 30s do, the underwater escapes, the aircraft fight and the laughable CG-animal stunt, you see the wavelength being overstretched. V V Vinayak should have hit the caution button when Alludu Seenu fizzled at the box office. It really looks like he has to learn it the hard way. (more)
