Jai Gangaajal

Jai Gangaajal falters plot-wise, tries to balance it out with performances yet fails to create the right impact.

Prakash Jhas Jai Gangaajal starts off well but soon turns into one of his regular films. It is like this film has no purpose except to glorify a female cop character. In doing that, Jha does nothing but make sure that his lady cop has ample of make up and her strands of hair made up in a bun tightly. She is expected to do nothing but crack some punchlines and take off her aviators every now and then. A botched up plot clubbed with a terrible background score.Jai Gangaajal can be easily missed if you are not a fan of Priyanka Chopra or Prakash Jha.(more)

Priyanka Chopras cop drama is GRIPPING in parts!

The film is at its most powerful when it veers towards scenes that are inspired from real life incidents. The Delhi bus rape, the mass lynching, land grabbing and farmer suicides all find a mention here. The mass lynching scene of a villain that comes post interval particularly stands strong. The cast is terrific in their roles.(more)

Movie Review

Testimonies to this are in the form of Govind Nihalani's ARDH SATYA, E. Niwas' SHOOL and of course Prakash Jha's GANGAAJAL. Prakash Jha, whose forte has always been the hard hitting stories of the northern India with the undercu(more)

Even Hollywood export Priyanka Chopra's presence can't save this film

As the director, Jha builds the framework in which to let Abha grow and develop her character, even though the graph is a tried-and-tested one. Strong female cops are no novelty in Bollywood, but they are rare, and Jha's attempt to bring PC in to be the lynchpin of his good-vs-bad drama deserves applause. That and of course, his social commentary through the film.(more)

Priyanka Chopra shines in this predictable drama

he storyline of Jai Gangaajal doesnt offer anything that you havent seen before. This holds true even if you have watched only Prakash Jhas films. But, it has tear-inducing moments and Priyanka Chopra ensures they keep coming at regular intervals. Once again, the dark underbelly of the Hindi heart land has been explored with explosive dialogues and superficial sensibilities.(more)
