Arike is an unsophisticated watch.
In the technical front Azhagappan, as usual, does his best behind camera for his best friend on business. Shyamaprasad. The editing by Vinod Sukumaran and other technical aspects are fine. Ouseppachan once again comes up with a couple of good songs that are here to stay .Our pick among the lot are 'Veyil Pole' by karthick and 'Iravil Anayum', by Mamtha. On the whole, 'Arike' is a simple film told in the most simplistic manner. The movie should appeal mainly to those who cherish the lighter movies of yore.(more)

Arike is a must watch
Dileep's low-key performance is a revelation (especially just coming after the 'over the top' Mayamohini). He has gone on record to say that his performance was moulded by the acting of Amol Palekar in the 1980s. We can feel an undercurrent of friction between the characters of the two leading ladies but there is no comparison between them performance wise. Their characters run parallel throughout the film and they play them to perfection. With Arike, director Shyamaprasad tries to look at love from a different perspective and shows what it can really mean for human beings.(more)

They all look distant and detached keeping the viewers too at a distance.
In his languidly paced Arike, Shyamaprasad talks about love, its charm, vulnerability and the riveting rapidity of its occurrence. He employs Dileep in the lead role, a researcher with as queer a name as Shantanu for a Malayali. But his hair style announces his scholarly profession. Shantanu is in love with an affluent and care-free girl, Kalpana ( Samvritha Sunil), and Anuradha ( Mamata Mohandas), her friend, plays witness to their affair.(more)
