we deserve better
A missing script and plot males things worse. So do the horrendous music track by Preetam with not one hummable memorable track. The only saving grace is that both SRK and Kajol try to bring some sense to their parts, are good actors clearly stuck with a horrible film. (more)

DILWALE is akin to a mouthwatering meal
Rohit Shetty focuses on the love story yet again, while the light moments, high-octane drama and aimed-at-masses dialogue -- the staple ingredients or fodder that contribute to a masalathon -- adorn the goings-on wonderfully. At heart, and true to its title, DILWALE remains a love story, not an assemblage of sequences to win and woo the spectators. (more)

Movie Review
Rohit excels at capturing the essence of action, he miserably fails at creating romance. Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon�s chemistry is as good as invisible in the film and when it comes to Shah Rukh and Kajol, the lack of originality kills all the excitement. I found it strange how Rohit managed to get Deepika and Shah Rukh look so adorable in Chennai Express but failed to create the same with Shah Rukh and Kajol, in spite of them having a history of epic on-screen romance.(more)

Movie Review
Rohit Shetty's films are big-ticket adventures; a genre unto themselves. Low on content � plot lines borrowed (in this case Hum and Kasme Vaade), incohesive screenplay and lowbrow dialogues (Sajid-Farhad) � the film leans heavily on Shah Rukh's mega-stardom, Varun's effervescence, breathtaking locales (Iceland and Bulgaria), orchestrated car chases and over-the-top situations, which have you chuckling. Dilwale is a bizarre love story
Dilwale, if not outright piffle, is flat and desultory. It has two time-frames separated by 15 years and both the stories that it narrates are about lovers, warring guardians and broken hearts. While the first is action-packed and expectedly allows director Rohit Shetty to pull off a couple of exciting chase sequences, the second is a pedestrian mish-mash of multiple and incompatible elements. Another disappointing, over-the-top commercial venture from Shahrukh Khan
The film's casting is its biggest plus and the pairing of SRK and Kajol is sure to draw in audiences in large numbers. But the film's masala mix is bland and something that we have experienced in many movies before, particularly in the South. At more than 2 hrs 30 mins, you would be forced to check out the time quite often over the course of the film.(more)

Dilwale is an absolute dud
Rohit Shetty's Dilwale has Kajol -- a street-side artist who seems to have nothing better to do than buy high-contrast metallic nailpaint -- give Shah Rukh Khan a similar five minutes, following which Khan throws out his take on the full Mosby. Except that this is only possible because Khan, a mafia don, has henchmen working for him, and because Khan, the mafia don, has a ton of money to spend on her.(more)

So fake, so not funny
This Dilwale, built on the goodwill generated by that film and its lead pair, sits in so much fakery and doesn�t really have a story to go. It just twists and winds its way from one cliche to another, cracking jokes that are pitiable.(more)

Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol are explosive together
The film is as much about the romance between our lead pairs, as it is about deep, abiding love for cars. Director Rohit Shetty shows us beautiful vintage cars that trudge along in the quaint lanes of Goa, and you can almost hear him sob when he does his trademark car explosions. (more)

Flawed movie survives because of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol
The film works because of him and Kajol, who delivers an utterly moving and believable performance whether she is spewing fire or ice from her eyes. The films has many funny moments (when Vir confessed his love story to Raj) but there aren't as many as in Rohit's Golmaals and All The Best. The funniest scene of the film comes from Pankaj Tripathi and Mukesh Tiwari when they reveal the Raj's past to Vir and Ishita. The action scenes are very well shot, no one does that better than Rohit. Kriti Sanon looks pretty and does her best with the role she has. (more)

Rohit Shetty raises the roof with the production values. Dilwale is a good looking film. Despite the pre conceived notion that comes attached with his films, Rohit manages to create characters that retain your interest. The film works because of Shah Rukh Khan and his never ageing charm. (more)

Heart Attack
The deliberate attempt to repackage and sell the Kajol-SRK romance of yore backfires, seeming like a pale shadow of the magic there once was. The two seem like caricatures of Raj-Simran. Much water has flown under the bridge and all that. Yes, nostalgia can, at times, suck. So Gerua can�t be a patch on Sooraj hua maddham. And Shetty can�t a Chopra-Johar be. (more)

A heartless affair that relies on Shah Rukh Khan
Dilwale has a highly predictable storyline. In fact, it relies solely on the star power of SRK and some chuckle-worthy PJs. But, the decision to plot Khan as a don largely works for Shetty. He has the most satisfying presence in the film. That�s not enough, though. His charisma engulfs every other thing in action scenes.(more)
