Simplicity wins you over

The film is carried through also by the lead cast. Ayushman Khurana as the vulnerable confused tormented Lappu is brilliant, believable and totally in his element making one forgive Hawaaizada. The revelation is however debutant Bhumi Padnekar as Sandhya, never before has a hindi heorine debuted with this strong a role in recent times - she is lives and breathes the role, never once making us think she is acting. In fact that can be said for the entire film, not once do we feel this is not real life moments that are magnified on the silver screen. Slice of life served with warmth and a dash of humor, do not miss this one at any cost. (more)

It knows where its coming from and where it wants to go

Ayushmann Khurrana does a good job as the chota shehari Kumar Sanu fan who learns to dust off the cobwebs in his mind, and to apologise to the woman he has hurt : it takes courage to play this not very likeable character without demanding sympathy from us. The triumph of the film is Sandhya, beautifully played by Bhumi Pednekar, the overweight girl burdened by not just by her size, but by the lingering awareness that love could, heartbreakingly, be out of her reach.(more)

Dum Laga Ke Haisha, written and directed by Sharat Katariya, is worth its weight in gold.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha wouldn't, however, be the film it is without its secondary characters and the actors who play them. Sanjay Mishra, a consummate scene-stealer, isn't the only one here who is in fine fettle as always. Seema Bhargava (as the heroine's mother) and Alka Amin and Sheeba Chaddha (as the hero's mother and aunt respectively) add considerable weight to the film. YRF hasn't produced a better film in years. Dum Laga Ke Haisha is more than just a must-watch. It should to be held up as an example of what a mainstream Bollywood banner can achieve when it lends its clout to an out-of-the-box idea executed by a director who clearly knows his onions better than most in the business today. Ayushmann, Bhumi Pednekar's movie is YRF's best in years

Director Katariya keeps things very simple, yet entertaining and relatable. If youve had first hand experience with a situation like the one in which the films lead couple find themselves, theyll find enough to appreciate in Dum Laga Ke Haisha. For the rest, its a chance to revisit a lost decade and revive our interest in Yash Raj Films. Its good to know that the production house that brings us over-the-top spectacles like the Dhoom films can make something small, hilarious and straight from the heart.(more)

The real story behind Kumar Sanu's Dard Karaara

Kataria, who's earlier written films such as Bheja Fry, 10 ml Love and Hum Tum Shabana, says he's comfortable dealing with the genre of humour. I was watching Calendar of Unusual Sports one day and came to know that people in Canada, USA, Germany and many other countries celebrate a festival in which people carry their partners on their back and race. That made me wonder what if one of them is a bit overweight. That was the inception of Dum Laga Ke Haisha. The film's trailers suggest it will introduce Khurrana in a completely new avatar. Ayushmann suited the part. He has nothing starry about him. He is a humble, modest guy. We were looking for someone with non-hero attitude and he was our guy.(more)

Watch Dum Laga Ke Haisha for its natural flavour minus the drama.

Surprisingly, YRFs most honest film amongst the recent times. It is a great script filled with nostalgia for those who have grown up in the bygone era of 80s and 90s. There is incredible detailing of characters and it is enough to find an instant connect. Dum Laga Ke Haisha could be a mirror for quite a lot people who have first hand experience of such situations.(more)

DUM LAGA KE HAISHA is a simple film that will make you smile.

As for the film's music apart from the much publicized Anu Malik, Kumar Sanu track that recreates the 90's feel at the end of the film, the rest of the album does not feature much music with most of the tracks being used in the background. The trio of Anu Malik, Varun Grover and Chinni Prakash makes the viewers relive the nineties era in full bloom. Amidst all these things that work in the favor of the film, the only possible place where the film lags behind is its editing (Namrata Rao). Had the film been edited in a few places, it really would have added more spice to the film. While the film's cinematography (Manu Anand) is average, the film's sound (Shajith Koyeri) is commendable. A special mention to the film's production designer Meenal Agarwal for having recreated the nineties era, which was dominated by VCRs, scooters, ball pens, audio cassettes and likes.(more)
