Dirty Politics

Dirty Politics is just plain bad. Give it a miss and put your Holi weekend to holier use.

The film places far too much on the actress plate. Sadly, it is a thin plate that is riddled with as many holes as the unimaginative screenplay. It is not as if Sherawat does not do her job in right earnest. But the steamy sizzle that she cranks up occasionally is drowned out by the fetid hot air that Dirty Politics wallows in. Sherawat, seen on the big screen after a long hiatus, is dreadfully rusty as an ambitious danseuse, Anokhi Devi, who seeks to use an ageing and pot-bellied but libidinous politician Dinanath (Om Puri) as a stepping stone to electoral success. When the paunchy old fox reneges on his promise to propel the raunchy vixen into the political sphere, the lady scorned springs a sex CD on him and threatens to ruin his public life. (more)

Expect to remain unmoved by this film which tries to unleash the morally corrupt face of Indian politics.

A hybrid of political drama and murder mystery, Dirty Politics is a warped tale. Despite flaunting a convoy of seasoned actors, the film fails to hold up its promising premise. The script's most potent part is the sex scandal but the writer introduces an array of meaningless sub-plots which dilutes it. Had the story systematically unraveled its myriad facets, it could've left a thumping impact.(more)

No such luck.

What we get is the kind of film which should have been deep-sixed before it was thought of. And dialogues that had me guffawing helplessly because there was nothing else I could do. Puri, bending over Sherwat : you know how a tiger attacks? ( Oh the poor man, I felt for him). Sherawat, biting his ear : kaat khaaongi. And then Sherawat is made to pull out the ch word from her arsenal and yell it out, when she is not crossing her legs, seated on a throne, Sharon Stone-style. And here I thought gaalis were being excised left, right and centre.(more)
