Wazir is a missed opportunity.

It is a story that could have been gripping but suffers from a bad treatment, thus leaving you disappointed. Farhan and Big B do their best to save this botched up plot but they cant..The first half seems decently pacey, Wazir badly suffers in the second. The film juggles between thriller and drama genres, thus leaving the audiences bored. Also towards the end, when the cat is already out of the bag, there is a forced scene which gives you a detailed sequence of the mystery being unfolded. (more)

Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar are the film's high point.

There are many good things about Wazir. First off, this is a film thats backed by writing. If the second half had been as taut, the film would have been riveting. But Bejoy Nambiars familiar penchant for manufacturing atmosphere comes in the way.Wazir reaffirms something weve always known. that theres nothing to beat a plot-driven film. That the supreme importance in a thriller is to keep it going. And that strong performances are the pivot of any film: watching Akhtar and Bachchan joust and manoeuver around each other is this films high point.(more)

WAZIR HAS SHARP PERFORMANCES, BUT LOSES GRIP!

Wazir is a smart movie - which could have been way smarter. Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Daanish Ali (Farhan) loses his daughter while chasing terrorists. His anguished wife Roohana (Aditi) blames Daanish, who's about to kill himself in guilt-laden grief. Suddenly, he meets wheelchair-bound Pandit Omkar Nath Dhar (Amitabh), who teaches Daanish about chess, life, love - and revenge. Panditji's own tragic tale leads Daanish to investigate Welfare Minister Qureishi (Manav) - and then chase him furiously when brutal assassin Wazir (Neil) attacks Pandit Dhar.(more)

WAZIR seems to be the only film that has chess as its central theme.

WAZIR, despite boasting of some of the great performances, reasonably fails to leave the desired impact because of its convoluted script. At the box office, the film may just about appeal to a handful of the multiplex audiences who would want to get a taste of Bollywood entertainment in absence of any new film releases since past three weeks.(more)

Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar are IMPRESSIVE in this predictable game of chess!

Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan are stellar in their roles. Big B is brilliant in the scene where he reminisces about his dead wife, and also in the final scene. Farhan provides perfect foil to his senior costar, and he brings various nuances to his anguished performance. The film is watchable because of these two actors. (more)

Wazir is a childish game of chess

Bejoy Nambiar's Wazir -- based on a script by producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra -- stacks the pieces interestingly enough to begin with. There is a brooding rook, flawed but furious. There is a desperate pawn with nothing to lose.(more)
