Deceivingly Flawed

Imtiaz's world is beautifully mounted, picturesque photo postcard lives all over. Indulgent at times, especially in the second half, the narrative that oscillates between imaginary, the past and the present works for most parts. Aided by Rehman's terrific soundtrack, the screenplay gives us pathos passion and humor in good measure. (more)

Tamasha is different but not perfect.

Tamasha is certainly a one time watch! It is a typical Imtiaz Ali film and hence you cannot go with an expectation of watching a frothy romance. Dealing with the concept of love in a cryptic form, this film will not appeal to everyone.(more)

Movie Review

Extremely high expectations from the film's director Imtiaz Ali, whose last film was the hard hitting HIGHWAY. The sad part is that with TAMASHA, Imtiaz Ali fails to live upto the expectations and falls flat with the film. The movie suffers from a plot that appears confusing and is convoluted for an avid cinegoer. The film fails to bear the trademark way of his writing and the quintessential 'Imtiaz Ali' style of film making. His direction fails to complement the screenplay and vice versa. (more)

Ranbir Kapoor delivers a career best performance in Tamasha

Tamasha is essentially a soul searching venture. Common man tends to get so caught up in the rat race and need for survival that he often forgets who he is and what purpose is he living for. Imtiaz Ali attempts to shed light on this very thought through the story of Ved(played by Ranbir Kapoor) and his imaginative world.(more)

Movie Review

Every frame is picture-perfect. And Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are on top of their game. Added to that are an intelligently elliptical narrative, imaginative use of songs and occasional bright spots. Yet, Tamasha is disappointingly inert and unexciting. Its overly simplistic fairy-tale construct creative and free-spirited son versus pragmatic and domineering dad is given a gender-reversal spin.(more)

Deepika and Ranbir convey their angst and passion so convincingly that you're hooked. Except for the curiosity about them, the rest of the drama is `oh,never-mind'.(more)

Ranbir and Deepika stun in Imtiaz Ali's audacious love story

Tamasha is the kind of love story seldom seen before on Hindi screen. It is gutsy, somewhat audacious, and complicated. Its very brave of Imtiaz to bring this to the screen with actors like Ranbir and Deepika; even braver of producer Sajid Nadiadwala to back it.(more)
