This Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi-starrer is not as maasoom as it seems

he first half of the film is devoted to the central trio's stupidity combined with the Mumbai-versus-Delhi and intra-NCR rivalry in their group. The barbs going back and forth between them are worthy of laughs because Bumpy and his team of co-writers here play on stereotypes without perpetuating them and gently mock those who do. There are, for instance, swipes aplenty directed at netas who have encouraged resentment and violence against 'outsiders' in Mumbai in the past decade(more)

A drab circus of laughs and thrills

Directed by Bumpy for Y-Films, an offshoot of Yash Raj Films, this low-budget, low-rent comedy thriller starts out as a bumbling bank heist where everyone's a conscious idiot -- the victimiser, the victim.(more)

Riteish Deshmukh, this tired film leaves us sad for you

The film gets a little perky right at the end, with a twist and all, but it is much too little much too late. Oberoi, who can do so much better, is reduced to puffing his chest, and twirling his tache. And Im saddest about the waste of the talented Deshmukh, so good at dead-panning and lifting the most deadbeat of films. This ones beyond him, alas. Cuss word. Blip, blip.(more)

Go For It, Coz This Comedy Has A Thrilling Twist!

Bank Chor appears to be a comedy from its trailer and hence I entered the theatre with the expectation of watching a comedy. But what starts as a comedy soon turns into a nail-biting gripping thriller! The credit for this unexpected twist in the tale completely goes to the writers Baljeet Singh Marwah, Bumpy Omkar Sane and Ishita Moitra Udhwani.(more)

Movie Review

After having made a handful of TV shows and a Bollywood film LUV KA THE END, director Bumpy aka Vivek Mathur (thats his real name) lends his directorial expertise to BANK CHOR. The way in which he has handled the tongue-in-cheek humor laced film BANK CHOR is extremely weak. This only goes onto prove that films of such genres definitely require an 'experienced hand' for the film to be worth its salt. While BANK CHORs first half is relatively funny, its the second half where the film becomes worse and gradually starts getting on your nerves. One cannot deny the fact that BANK CHOR has been heavily inspired by films like BANK JOB, SPECIAL 26 and YRFs very own DHOOM series. But the makers try so hard to make the film look smart and cool towards the end that it becomes a failed Bollywood potboiler from the 80s. Theres one twist after another and everyone starts outsmarting the other person. Sadly, these gimmicks fail to impress. (more)

A pseudo-comedy, a flawed thriller

The man who steals the show is undoubtedly Sahil Vaid who plays an aggressive robber. His portrayal may put other actors to shame. Riteish Deshmukh is repetitive in his comic timing but sails through in the entire film backed up by funny dialogues. Bhuvan Arora and Vikram Thapa are refreshing and convincing. Vivek Anand Oberoi looks good as a tough CBI officer. Rhea Chakraborty has nothing much to do in the film, even a non-actor would have pulled her role.(more)
