DDD sinks due to lack of story!

Dil Dhadakne Do has its moments! How a dysfunctional family functions, the inside tensions and the relations which have a bitter-sweet touch to them is shown wonderfully by Zoya. However the lack of story and dragging it roughly an hour more than what was required killed the movie.(more)

Priyanka, Anushka are better than parts written for them, Shefali Shah is the best part of this film.

High-society hi-jinks on the high seas. This, in short, is what Dil Dhakakne Do comes off as primarily, even if there are multiple straining-for-depth strands in it. Of creeping middle-age and dwindling love. Of gender imbalance caused by dominant males, and the making of submissive women. Of lineage and privilege and position. Of life lessons from the wisest of them all, a dog named Pluto - (more)

Dil Dhadakne Do is a snoozefest and a surefire cure for insomnia.

The same is true of Manav, Ayesha's husband who believes his wife would always be at his beck and call despite the fact that she is an entrepreneur in her own right. On the ship, Ayesha comes face to face with her first love, Sunny Gill (Farhan Akhtar), the son of her dad's trusted manager, while her drifter-brother falls head over heels for dancer Farah Ali (Anushka Sharma). More complications, more sweet nothings. Hindi cinema history has seen one big film about "loving your parents". Dil Dhadakne Do is about "hating your parents" and in the process compelling them to change their ways. (more)

A DESI FAMILY DRAMA - WITH GLOBAL STYLE!

Straight away, Dil Dhadakne Do redefines the Bollywood family drama. Millionaire Kamal Mehra (Anil) faces bankruptcy. To shore up credibility, Kamal and his wife Neelam (Shefali) invite their rich friends on a luxurious Mediterranean cruise, joined by son Kabir (Ranveer), daughter Ayesha (Priyanka), her pompous husband Manav (Rahul), his complaining mother ( Zarina Wahab), the gentle Mehra dog Pluto - and lots of bitchy buddies.(more)

Despite Ranveer-Priyanka, this cruise goes nowhere

There is hardly any takeaway from Dil Dhadakne Do and its characters are not likely to stay with you for long. Also, it would be hard for you and me to identify with the doubts and troubles of the morally ambiguous Mehra family. However, the film has a good starcast and that can dictate the game at the box office. (more)

Dil Dhadakne Do is not a massy film and that is where it may lose a good chunk of its audience.

The Mehras are classy with their tastes and it is fun to unlearn the warped problems of this dysfunctional family. The performances are good enough to sail this cruise. A not-so-perfect plot that drags for two and a half hours with not one chart buster to enjoy.(more)

Ranveer and Anil stand out in Dil Dhadakne Do

Dil Dhadakne Do translates to let the heart beat. The heart, it wants what it wants, and thats all very well, especially if it wants the kind of watery climaxes where hugs solve everything. But ah, how I wish this film hadnt gone doggystyle.(more)
