Main Tera Hero has both strains of comedy, the crass and the truly funny, but in the end it is the latter that dominates.
The lead trio is well supported by an array of comic talent Anupam Kher, Saurabh Shukla and Rajpal Yadav. When they are on the screen, even the less convincing passages pass muster. Saurabh Shukla as the gangsters wise-cracking sidekick and Yadav as the cops bullied assistant are the best of the lot. As one character in the film reminds another, forget the words, just focus on the emotions. In fact, it would be wise to ignore the emotions too. Main Tera Hero, for all its excesses, is held together by its sustained comic energy. The sillier it turns, the better it gets. The film has enough laugh-out-loud situations for the audience not to be overly put off by the screenplays obvious rough edges. Give Main Tera Hero a shot. Not quite vintage David Dhawan, but it comes pretty close.(more)

Main Tera Hero is total paisa vasool!
Main Tera Hero largely belongs to Varun Dhawan but not exclusively so. It is to him what Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani was to Ranbir Kapoor -- and Main Tera Hero could have been there, at the same level as APKGK, had a little more thought been put into the production design. Main Tera Hero succeeds where films like R... Rajkumar, Chennai Express and Phata Poster Nikla Hero failed. Not exactly suitable for family audiences, Main Tera Hero is a total seeti-maar, paisa vasool film and refreshingly unpretentious.(more)

Main Tera Hero is fools paradise
Main Tera Hero is dumbed down by design. I have no issues with that. My problem is that the frenzied plot didnt deliver enough funny lines. The burden of making this enterprise work rests mostly with Varun, who is as hyper as a helium-filled energiser bunny. He romances, dances, punches and does comedy like his life depended on it. Meanwhile, the two svelte heroines Ileana DCruz and Nargis Fakhri simper about looking sexy. David believes in equal-opportunity objectification, so the camera caresses the girls as much as it does Varuns six-pack abs. They are all lovely to look at. I just wish it had been more interesting. At the end of the film, the gangsters sidekick exclaims: "Jaise ghar ki chhatt ko roof kehte hain, jaise saboot ko English mein proof kehte hain, vaise har language main aap jaison ko bewaqoof kehte hain." - (more)

Varun tries everything in his repertoire to be this hero
The film may be a Telugu remake, but the template is very Dhawan, with the usual mix of buffoons and goons and mistaken identities playing I spy in a Bangkok hotel masquerading as a home. Layabout Seenu (Varun Dhawan) reaches Bengaluru with the single aim of earning a college degree. Instead, he starts chasing the pretty Sunaina (Ileana D Cruz), who is being menaced by a tall, burly policeman (Arunoday Singh). A rival for Seenus affections pops up, in the shape of the curvy, lippy Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), and things get complicated.(more)

Seenu loves Sunaina but they're chased by a stalking cop, an infatuated beauty and her mafia don dad
Main Tera Hero (MTH) is a glittering vehicle for star son Varun Dhawan to drive, which he does with practiced panache. However, even more than Junior, MTH has his dad David Dhawan stamped all over it. Hence, eternally smiling Seenu (Varun) is unfazed by failure or goons. Seenu pauses from cheeky grinning only to dance and romance, falling for Sunaina (Ileana), stalked by violent Angad (Arunoday) and sidekick Peter (Rajpal). More superhero than hero, Seenu shows Angad his mean fight moves, but finds himself captured by ardent Ayesha (Nargis), whose 'Dadduz' Vikrant (Kher) is the biggest don of Asia and Africa too! How can Seenu get out of so many clutches?(more)
