KOYELAANCHAL is absorbing and engaging

Lawless land. Coal mining mafia. Men with insatiable hunger for power and sex. Gruesome violence Asshu Trikha highlights all of the above in his new outing KOYELAANCHAL. The raconteur takes you to the world where might is right and the voice of the poor and the hapless never make it to the ears of the concerned authorities.KOYELAANCHAL highlights the atrocities committed by Saryubhan Singh [Vinod Khanna], referred to as 'Maalik' in the region. The only language he knows and understands is, my way or the highway. Things take a turn when an honest and upright District Collector Nisheeth Kumar [Suniel Shetty] steps in to take charge. (more)

Meticulously researched and intricately written by Vishal Vijay Kumar and Sanjay Masoom, it is evident from the start that a whole lot of careful plotting and planning has gone into this tale of melodramatic dimensions filled with characters who shriek and protest even when they are in the wrong. Not the meek, but the strong and the powerful inherit the earth occupied by Trikha's trenchant drama. - See more at: http://www.hindustantimes.com/entertainment/reviews/movie-review-koyelaanchal-tumultuous-turbulent-drama-of-the-damned/article1-1217108.aspx#sthash.w1vk2H0w.dpuf(more)

Koyelaanchal explores Indias oldest mafia

It may sound uncanny, but the idea of Koyelaanchal, which revolves around India's coal mafia, was conceived much before the multi-crore Coalgate scam shocked the nation. And, work on the film started around the time the scam hit headlines. Suniel Shetty, who plays IAS officer Nisheeth Kumar, feels the movie could well be called a prequel to the real scam. "The story explores why such things happen. After nationalisation of coal mines, the government helped the wrong people instead of booking them," he says.(more)
