Vivah almost suffocates you with it's holier-than-thou attitude.
The film has no story whatsoever and is just a plain and simple documentation of something as banal as an engagement to a vivah , interspersed with the usual picnics and clandestine rooftop trips. For those who still like their cinema smelling of Savlon, Vivah is a one-call stop.(more)

Desi and sentimental
VIVAH has an ordinary/routine first half, but the post-interval portions, notably the climax, compensate for the shortcomings. Sooraj R. Barjatya is back to his style of narrating simple stories, with emphasis on emotions. This may not be Sooraj's finest effort, but the assets outnumber the liabilities this time.(more)

For those whom nostalgia still hasn't run dry
Barjatya may be portraying a traditional lifestyle as he knows it, but these days, with so-called Indian values being hammered into our heads from television soaps, it's difficult to say where tradition ends and regression begins. For all its syrupy sweetness, Vivah is dangerously close to being regressive.(more)
