Meeruthiya Gangsters Film Review: A failed, over-ambitious attempt to repeat a Gangs of Wasseypur!

From the promos, Meeruthiya Gangsters did make some nostalgic of GOW from its quirky one-liners and crazy sub-urban characters.  But when one watches the whole 2 hour drama, he is left unimpressed by the story brought by the debut director and GOW writer ZeeshanQuadri.

Five friends, just out of college who looking to start a venture of their own lands in the kidnapping business to earn quick start-up money but soon one kidnapping leads to another. This keeps happening until one of the kidnapping cases is given to the brutal Inspector R K Singh which leads to chases and running around, cheating and back-stabbing as sub-plots.

The plot is the real villain of the story and doesn’t hold the audience too long with all the confusions and the lousy execution of the same. One expects it to be funny but the film fails in that regard too. Except for the few one-liner and Sanjay Mishra, most of the lines go unnoticed and when noticed, sounds lame.

The one of the major thing that worked for GOW was its music and songs, which this film hugely suffers from. Apart from that, Anurag Kashyap’s ability to handle multiple characters seemed lacking in Zeeshan’s direction.

Coming onto the performances, JaideepAhlawat and AakashDahiya have done a decent job but all the other new actors lacked detailing and their inexperience was visible at places. Sanjay Mishra and Brijender Kala in their cameo were top-notch and provide the much needed comic relief to the film. Mukul Dev on the other hand disappointed bigtime as sometimes he was just shouting. His portrayal was plain unlike his other roles.

In all, the film is best when skipped even for the Wasseypur fans.
