Gabbar Is Back Music Review - “Back from the backyard”

Anup Pandey

Music: Chirantan Bhatt, Yo Yo Honey Singh & Manj Musik

Lyrics: Manoj Yadav, Kumaar, Sahil Kaushal, Manj Musik, Raftaar & Big Dhillon

1. Teri Meri Kahaani

Huge heard-before feel to it due to its template-ish guitars and Arijit Singh’s vocals. Palak Muchhal’s part doesn’t pitch in any freshness either. The transition from main hook into interludes is pretty nice though.

2. Coffee Peetey Peetey

Some thumping beats and strings lay the foundation for a very hummable tune to set on for this lightweight-y college-canteen kind of romantic track. Thankfully, it doesn’t stretch for a long to suck out all its freshness, and tiny variations in its way (like the chorus) are sweet too. Dev Negi and Paroma das Gupta on vocals sound perfect within the scope of the song.

3. Aao Raja

The mandatory Yo Yo Honey Singh song for an Akshay Kumar film is here and is just as misogynistic. NehaKakkar tries to sound Ila Arun-kind earthy. For a Honey Singh song to work, you can’t be sure if the song really has to be good or it’s just the name that sells. Same goes here.

4. Warna Gabbar Aa Jayega

A mouthful of dialogues is set to emit robotically with tiring techno in the background. Laborious one; won’t do any good to the film nor to the dance floors or to your ears.

Bottomline

For an Akshay Kumar film, the soundtrack need not be an outlandish one. 2 romantic tracks and 2 raps would be enough. Need they be good? Who cares!
