Ungli Movie Review – Complete outright diasater

You realize what a big mistake it was to buy tickets for a film when the lead, in an emotional scene, says “aansu se sirf whiskey dilute hoti hai”. Then again, you ponder and against good judgment give the movie another chance to redeem itself. Sadly, Rensil DeSilva’s Ungli is bent on squandering every opportunity in sight to stop being the most ridiculous film to release this year.

A gym trainer is hurt and damaged for being the good Samaritan. His clients along with his sister decide hence to clean the city of all “system abusers” and wrong doers. A cop who never works, Emraan Hashmi, gets together with a mechanic, a medical intern Kangana and an engineer to show the world the proverbial Ungli. If only I knew the real ungli being shown was to us audiences and our intelligence.

The film is a series of smart aleck pranks the gang pulls out to rid the system of its ills - getting rickshaw wallas to not charge above the meter or refuse from plying, to corrupt fixers swindling public money- everyone is fixed with the Ungli. In between there are unbearable songs by a bunch of music directors clearly exemplifying how too many cooks can spoil the broth.

Inept direction skills notwithstanding, there was a flicker of a chance that Ungli could have worked out as a silly film that touches the right cord nonetheless with the viewers. Milap Zaveri with his brilliant dialogues ensures this never happens either. One after the other cringe worthy lines mouthed in equally insane situations tire you out, leaving you bewildered how bad can a film with this star cast go?!

Emraan broods, kisses and manages to come out unscathed, Kangana is at a place in her career where this debacle will be easily forgotten and forgiven. Sanjay Dutt is on screen after a while and has a PK to wipe out this blemish from his career. It is Hooda, Bhoopalam and Neha Dhupia who might actually bear the brunt of being part of this outrageous mess. Then again there are chances people will not even remember this film enough to hold it against them.

Stay far far away from a screen playing this film. You do not want to be fingered this way, ever.
