Happy New Year Trailer Review - “SRK-fest”

Must admit, the first shot of beautifully lit Palms Island captivated me so much that I liked the atmosphere of the film instantly. But everything was pulled down just in moments by that extensively used tacky CG throughout. It’s hard to digest that Farah Khan who recreated the world of ‘80s so well in Om Shanti Om had to reduce to this.

SRK looks in his usual form and that’s the reason we go to watch him on screen. Deepika Padukone seems to have a laborious accent in this one too after Chennai Express. Abhishek Bachchan and Sonu Sood looks seriously caricatured doing what they have been doing in other films. Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah should save some grace in the acting department.

It’s quite surprising to see no credit to Shirish Kunder in any of the departments. The music in the trailer,
composed by Vishal & Shekhar and written by Irshad Kamil, sounds catchy.

Though we’ve been told the plotline of the film in the trailer itself (which is very typical of any heist film and sounds very predictable too) but, I hope, the outlandish landscape of the film will have something more to offer. Even if nothing, Indian masses will enjoy it as it looks a quick tourism to foreign lands and a potpourri of celebration- with their marketing hashtag as #IndiaWaale, the trailer of this film released a day before Independence Day starts with a Dahi-Handi song, is set to release on Diwali and has the title “Happy New Year”.
