Aishwarya Rai launches 'Public Stem Cell bank' in Chennai


LifeCell’s brand ambassador Aishwarya Rai launched the company’s umbilical cord public stem cell bank in Chennai on Sunday. Aishwarya Rai looked stunning in a red Sabhysachi sari with a heavy black border at the stem cell banking event. 

 

Speaking at a press meet during the launch of the public stem cell banking scheme by LifeCell, a stem cell bank, Aishwarya praised this effort, saying the initiative would have great social impact and meet out the shortage of stem cells in the country. "I think that every expecting parent in our country should become aware of stem cell banking. Stem cells from the umbilical cord is a nature given resource. That needs to be preserved," she said.

LifeCell, the largest umbilical cord blood stem cell bank of India has set up a public stem cell bank at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The launch was a part of successful conservation of 1 lakh umbilical cord stem cell in its facility in the city. Mayur Abhaya, Managing Director of LifeCell stated about the plans proposed by the non-profit organization LifeCell Foundation for public facility, at the function organized to mark storing of 100,000 units of cord blood at its private banking facility.
