Anurag Kashyap's 'Ugly' finally gets a release date

Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly will finally hit theatres in India on September 19. Ugly is a psychological thriller and an emotional drama film written and directed by Anurag Kashyap. The film stars Girish Kulkarni, Ronit Roy, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Vinit Kumar Singh, Surveen Chawla and Vipin Sharma in pivotal roles. The film will also feature model turned TV actor Rahul Bhat in an important role. Music by GV Prakash.

Ugly was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. It also had the privilege of opening the 2014 New York Indian Film Festival. The Indian premiere of the film will take place at the Ladakh International Film Festival in July.

Ugly deals with a situation where no one can trust anyone amidst the scenes of brutality and psychological games after ten year old Kali goes missing from the car she was left in by her father.

Anurag had earlier planned to release the film in October 2013. However the film release got delayed since the director was in disagreement with the Censor Board to  add the anti-smoking disclaimer in all the scenes of his film where the characters have been shown smoking. He had also filed a petition in the court in this regard and had refused to release the film with anti-smoking notifications. Looks like finally Anurag had yielded in to Censor Board's norms and is releasing the film with anti-smoking disclaimers.
