Thalaivar 173 Shoot Begins in Poonamallee Amid Reports of Ashwath Marimuthu Taking Over as Director

The directorial chair on Rajinikanth's next for Raaj Kamal Film International, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, has seen considerable turbulence. Sundar C was the original director on the project before exiting due to creative differences, following which Cibi Chakravarthi was brought on board. Now, reports suggest yet another change may be underway, with Ashwath Marimuthu, known for Dragon, emerging as the frontrunner to helm the film. The speculation gained traction earlier this month when RKFI put out a special birthday post for the filmmaker, fuelling wide conjecture about his involvement.

Adding to the intrigue, recent reports indicate that shooting for Thalaivar 173 has commenced at a grand set in Poonamallee, with portions involving other cast members already underway. Rajinikanth is yet to join the sets, with reports suggesting his first shot will be for the film's opening song sequence.

Speculation has also surfaced around Mysskin, who appeared in Ashwath Marimuthu's Dragon, potentially being part of Thalaivar 173 as well. However, official details regarding the film's cast, crew, plot, genre and release date are yet to be disclosed by the makers.

Meanwhile, RKFI is also developing the high-profile KHxRK Reunion, a Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan collaboration directed by Nelson, running parallel to Thalaivar 173.
