The King is Coming for His Throne - RJ Balaji Drops Big Promises at Karuppu Audio Launch

PUBLISHED DATE | 27/Apr/2026

Director RJ Balaji pulled no punches at the Madurai audio launch of Karuppu, painting a vivid picture of what audiences can expect when Suriya hits screens on May 14.

Calling it a complete commercial entertainer crafted over nearly 32 months, Balaji revealed that the film is built for the theatrical experience — with a gripping first half and an entertainment-packed second. "Every ten minutes, there will be a high point in the film," he declared, adding that Suriya signed on after just a 45-minute narration.

Balaji also spoke about his vision for Suriya's screen presence — wanting the star to have fun, appear in multiple shades, and be seen in a truly massy way. Interestingly, he revealed that Karuppu features several scenes without Suriya — an unconventional choice that the actor willingly embraced. "On screen, his eyes speak volumes," the director said.

He signed off with a statement that sent the crowd into a frenzy — "The king is coming for his throne" — a bold declaration of Suriya's much-awaited comeback.

Suriya plays Saravanan, a rural lawyer and saviour-like figure, reuniting with Trisha — his Aaru (2005) co-star — as the female lead. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi. Sai Abhyankkar scores the music, with GK Vishnu on cinematography, R Kalaivanan editing, and Anbariv and Vikram Mor handling stunts.
