Selvaraghavan on 7G Rainbow Colony Sequel: 'Story Doesn't Naturally Lend Itself'

PUBLISHED DATE | 06/Apr/2026

Filmmaker-actor Selvaraghavan has opened up about the challenges of developing a sequel to 7G Rainbow Colony, ahead of the release of his upcoming film Manithan Deivamagalam.

In a recent interview, Selvaraghavan said the original film was written with a sense of closure, making a sequel difficult. He explained that the story ends with the protagonist becoming responsible while still emotionally tied to his deceased girlfriend, adding that exploring whether he moves on or continues in that state is the core idea being considered.

He also revealed that he had earlier declined producer A.M. Rathnam’s requests for a sequel multiple times, as he believed the film had already achieved completeness.

Selvaraghavan will next be seen in Manithan Deivamagalam, directed by Dennis Manjunath, releasing on April 10. As a director, he is currently working on Mental Manadhil with GV Prakash and 7G Rainbow Colony 2, both of which are planned for release in 2026.
