A meeting of key stakeholders from the Tamil film industry was held in Chennai on Saturday to deliberate on measures aimed at protecting the sector’s interests. The gathering was organised under the leadership of GKM Tamil Kumaran, president of the Tamil Film Producers Council, and brought together producers, distributors, theatre owners and representatives from various industry bodies.

One of the major decisions taken at the meeting was the formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising producers, distributors and theatre owners. The committee will work towards streamlining theatrical releases and regulating the timing of OTT premieres. Those present at the meeting unanimously agreed that the resolutions taken by the committee should be followed by members of the Tamil film industry.

Several prominent producers and association representatives attended the gathering, including T. G. Thyagarajan, president of the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, along with its secretary T. Siva and treasurer Dhananjayan Govind. Producers R. B. Choudary, Ishari K. Ganesh, Chandraprakash Jain, A. L. Azhagappan, Pyramid Natarajan, A. M. Rathnam, and Mukesh Mehta were also present.

Representatives from the exhibition and distribution sectors were part of the discussions as well. Tiruppur Subramaniam, president of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association, attended the meeting along with secretary Rohini Panneerselvam and other executives. Members of the Tamil Nadu Film Distributors Association, led by president Arulpathy, also took part.

Another key resolution focused on commitments between artistes and producers. Participants agreed that actors, directors and leading technicians who accept an advance from a producer must give priority to completing that particular project before signing other commitments.

The meeting also addressed the increasing overlap between cinema and digital platforms. As part of the resolutions, it was proposed that actors, actresses, directors and key technicians working on films should avoid participating in web series projects. In cases where they do so, they would be expected to comply with the decisions taken by the Joint Action Committee regarding their involvement in film projects.

The meeting concluded with industry representatives stressing the importance of coordinated action among various sectors of the Tamil film ecosystem to ensure smoother production and release processes.
