Actor Vijay announced the formation of his political party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on February 2, 2024. This TVK Party's flag, and a flag anthem titled Tamizhan Kodi Parakuthu, composed by Thaman, and with lyrics by Vivek, were unveiled on August 22, 2024, at the party headquarters in Pannaiyur, Chennai.  

 

"Our flag has two elephants, a vaagai flower (Albizia lebbeck flower) and stars. The party has the right to design its own flag. If the Election Commission raises questions, we will provide answers" 

 

- TVK Party's official statement, after a complaint was filed with the Chennai Police Commissioner's Office over contentious elements in the flag, such as it similarity to the Spanish National flag, and bearing the Bahujan Samaj Party's poll symbol, Elephants. 

Recently, actor Rajinikanth was asked by the press on what he thinks about Vijay's party flag and the flag anthem. The Superstar in his usual demeanor replied with a smile, "My best wishes to him (Mr. Vijay)". 

The TVK party has stayed away from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections that were held between April 19, and June 1 this year. Actor Vijay plans to make his political debut as the TVK Chief, by contesting in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
