M.K. Thiyagaraja Bhagavathar, the first Superstar of Tamil Cinema was famously involved in a murder case in the 1940s which made him loose all his wealth and interest in his career. Bhagavathar and Tamil comedy actor NS Krishanan were arrested in connection with the murder of a film journalist named C. N. Lakshmikanthan, who was notorious in the British era for Tamil yellow journalism.
Though Bhagavathar and NS Krishnan were acquitted later, they spent 2 and a half years in jail, resulting in them loosing their fame and wealth. CN Lakshminathan's murderers were never found and this sensational murder mystery is now being adapted into a web series by Sony Liv.

Sooriya Prathap is the writer, director of The Madras Murder and filmmaker AL Vijay was recently announced as the showrunner. Big Print Pictures is producing the series for Sony Liv.
