Times Now channel settles court case over Bollywood defamation!

PUBLISHED DATE | 22/Jun/2021

The unfortunate death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was followed by a media frenzy so loud that, to date viewers of the Hindi film industry hold a bitter taste for their once favourite stars. Many Bollywood actors, including the likes of Deepika Padukone were dragged though filth by news channels like Times Now and Republic during this very public ordeal.

As a sign of resistance to this never-ending defamation, 38 Hindi film industry bodies jointly moved Delhi High Court in October 2020 against the said TV channels and four leading commentators. They alleged “irresponsible,” “derogatory” and “defamatory” use of words and phrases against the Hindi film industry.

The Times Now group has now settled the matter out of court and in a joint statement released by them and the producers guild of India, it is noted,

“As per the Consent Terms agreed, Times Now reaffirms its commitment to abide by the Program Code under the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994 and undertakes not to publish or air anything that is defamatory to the plaintiffs (the Hindi film industry) on the Times Now channel..

With this matter settled, the plaintiffs and the Times Group can look forward to building on their historically cordial relationship.”
