Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam actor Thavasi who has appeared in a lot of supporting roles in Tamil movies over the years, had made a public appeal for financial help after his cancer got worse a few days ago. While Thavasi's treatment expenses are supported by actor Suriya's charitable trust and DMK MLA Dr Saravanan, the actor further received help post his video from Tamil film industry's popular names such as Sivakarthikeyan, Soori and Vijay Sethupathi.

While Thavasi's Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam co-stars each donated Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively, Vijay Sethupathi and his friend actor Soundar Raj, contributed Rs 1 lakh and Rs. 10,000 to the family. Thavasi is currently battling stage 4 cancer and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Madurai.
