Deepika Padukone who was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster film Padmaavat, is all set to act and produce Meghna Gulzar's next film. The film is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Deepika will play the role of Laxmi in the film.
After the success of Alia Bhatt starrer spy thriller Raazi, director Meghna Gulzar will be teaming up with Deepika Padukone who is set to don the producers hat as well. Deepika will be co-producing the film along with Meghna Gulzar. The film is expected to go on floors in February 2019.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Deepika was deeply moved by the story and decided to produce the movie as well. Deepika said, "When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer.”
Laxmi was attacked by a man at the age of 15 after she rejected his marriage proposal. She had to undergo several surgeries. She took up the job of helping acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop acid attacks. She was one of the winners of the US State Department’s International Women of Courage Award in 2014.
