M.K. Azhagiri pokes Rajinikanth in DMK Turf War!

PUBLISHED DATE | 13/Aug/2018

Hardly 10 days into the demise of former DMK supremo M. Karunanidhi, a turf war seems to have broken among two of his sons M.K. Azhagiri and M.K. Stalin over the reigns of one of Tamil Nadu's oldest political parties. M.K. Azhagiri, who was suspended from the DMK by his father in 2014 has spoken in an interview about him being 'separate from the DMK' and even poked actor-politician Rajinikanth, alleging that DMK forces are in talks with the Superstar.

Many in DMK are talking to Rajini. After General Elections, the party will be destroyed. I will continue to talk to my supporters. Thalaivar (Karunanidhi) will punish them, his soul will punish them. If the party was doing fine, why would they lose deposit in RK Nagar polls? Party leaders say that they have received money and they lost elections, (full statement here)”

As such, Rajinikanth hasn't made any political alliances ever since he announced his political entry, but he did support the DMK in 1996 and 1998 Lok Sabha elections. It is also worth mentioning here that when Rajinikanth sought the blessings of Karunanidhi after officially announcing his political entry, Stalin had made a scathing comment saying,

"..An impression is being created by some that Rajinikanth is entering into politics on the instigation of some people, who believe that he could destroy the Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu. I have a clear message for them. This is the soil of the Dravidian Movement. Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar enriched this soil and the movement. Many in the past have tried to destroy this movement. The country knows that they could not succeed in their attempt..”
