Ajay Devgn to essay the role of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in his biopic

Ajay Devgn is on a signing spree. Only a couple of days back, Ajay Devgn announced his next project with Neeraj Pandey in which he plays the titular role of Chanakya. Ajay Devgn will be next essaying the role of Football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in this new  project. Zee Studios who is co-producing the movie has made the announcement on its Twitter page. A teaser poster has been released with the slogan “The untold story of the golden era of Indian football, 1951-1962”.

 

 

The film will be a biopic on football coach and manager Syed Abdul Rahim of the Indian National Football team from 1950-1963.  Rahim is regarded as the architect of modern Indian football and his tenure as a coach is regarded as a "golden age" of football in India. He led the Indian team to the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Football tournament making India the first ever Asian country to achieve this place. Rahim's last success was at the Jakarta Asian games in 1962 where India went on to win gold, beating South Korea in the finals.  

 

The film will be helmed by Amit Sharma who has earlier directed Tevar. This would be Devgn’s second biopic after The Legend of Bhagat Singh. The film shooting will begin early next year. The sports biopic will be bankrolled by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Joy Sengupta.
