If you were online today, then you would have noticed reports about Sony Pictures' YouTube channel uploading a full feature length film by the name Khali the Killer, which up until today not many had heard of. TL;DR On the pretext of adding a trailer and advertising Khali the Killer DVD's availability in the US, Sony Pictures ended up uploading the full cut version of movie before taking it down 8 hours later. Sony has since not uploaded any content related to the film, though an earlier version of the movie's trailer is available on other channels.
Now, Sony Pictures being the brand that it is naturally garnered a lot of attention for this move, which many are debating to be either a 'major goof-up' by the marketing team handling Sony's YouTube page or an 'intentional stunt' to boost the market value of movie, that has a history of average performance (when it was earlier released in Germany) and is gearing up for an August, 2018 US premiere.
On one hand uploading a movie and keeping it live for 8 hours does not sound like a profitable venture for any organization, especially if they are intent on boosting the sales of the film's home media edition in any country. On the other, it is impossible for a marketing company to have access to full-cut version of the film on their own unless they held pirated versions, which wasn't the case here.
Intentional move or not, Khali the Killer is now plastered all over the internet and we now know that the movie is about a hit man who decides to take one last job before retirement but his plans fall apart when he develops empathy for one of his targets. This John Mathews directorial comes with a run time of 1 hour and 29 minutes and is available to be digitally purchased on Apple and Amazon Prime.
