Quantico Episode Gone Wrong: Hindu Extremist Group Outrages, Priyanka Chopra Apologises

It is no news that Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra plays FBI agent Alex Parrish in the ABC produced American series Quantico. The series which is currently in its Season 3 and 8 episodes short of the series finale, faced a whole lot of ire from the Indian community for an episode aired on June 1, 2018 titled The Blood of Romeo. This particular episode featured a Hindu extremist conspiracy to set off a nuclear explosion in New York City ahead of a peace summit between India and Pakistan, thus outraging Hindu nationalists all over India.

On Friday, the Walt Disney-owned ABC Studios issued an apology stating, “The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case, we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue..It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone. The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, most of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it..She has no involvement in the casting of the show or the storylines depicted in the series.”

Despite this clarification, fringe group Hindu Sena organised protests against the actress in India with placards reading 'Priyanka Chopra is a traitor, send her to Pakistan' and later burning them. An outraged statement by the organisation also read:
“Started her career by crying foul about being ill-treated and being victim of racism in United States, Priyanka Chopra used derogatory reference to India and Hindus in her American series, Quantico, A woman, who is a daughter of an Indian Army officer, who got a chance to represent India and was crowned Miss World, Bollywood actor and part of other national and international humanitarian projects and UN goodwill ambassador has stooped to such lows to gain a few dollars and some fame and a desperate attempt to fit in international circle(s) is utterly shameful and disgraceful,”
Now, the actor herself has come forward with an apology and has reiterated her love for the country.
