MOM Movie Review: MOM packs a solid punch to the Women Security Issue in the country

Women safety is one of the major issues that our country faces today and it is of extreme importance that through more and more mediums of expression and entertainment, the social conditioning causing this be questioned. Sridevi starrer ‘MOM’ does exactly that and moreover raises a question of what should one do when there are two wrong options at the stake.

MOM is a quest of a school teacher & mother, Devaki (Sridevi) seeking revenge from a group of teenage boys after they are declared innocent by the court of the rape they committed on her stepdaughter Arya. In this quest, she faces a lot of difficulties and an aid in private detective Daya Shankar Kapoor (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Will both of them be able to teach those boys a lesson or will they surrender to the system?

The film is very impressive when it comes to the storytelling, treatment and direction. The debutant director Ravi Udyawar does not let this tale become just a preachy revengeful saga but his approach of depicting the emotional journey and building moments is commendable. The characters are well laid out but the weak point of the film was its editing and the second seems far too stretched. The music by A.R. Rahman is top notch with O SonaTereLiye standing out for me.

Talking about the performances, Sridevi carries this film beautifully on her shoulders and proves her worthiness yet again with another brilliant performance after English Vinglish. Nawaz delivers a class act as always and his character is the most intriguing ones in the recent times. Adnan Siddiqui as the father puts up an amazing performance and so does Sajal Ali as the daughter. Even it was really good to see Akshaye Khanna putting up an intense performance.

In all, Mom is a must watch film for all and everybody should go in the theatres right away.
