MovieCrow Annual Rankings - Top 5 Tamil Comedians of 2016
There was a clear dearth of good comedy entertainers this year as many filmmakers ended up making loud and clichéd commercial potboilers. However, few comedians stood out this year with their spontaneity and ability to infuse interesting elements into the narration. We have come up with the list of Tamil Cinema's top 5 comedians in 2016.
1. Yogi Babu (Aandavan Kattalai)
Yogi Babu was an absolute delight in Aandavan Kattalai, which is undoubtedly the most freeflowing comedy entertainer of the year. His reactions throughout the movie were top-notch, especially in the scene when he gets down from the wrong bus. Although Yogi Babu was a part of many more films this year, it is Aandavan Kattalai which has got him the first place.
2. Soori (Rajini Murugan, Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaran)
As usual, Soori was the most sought after comedian and this year was a mixed one for him. His chemistry with Sivakarthikeyan was intact in Rajini Murugan, while he played a crucial role in making Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaran a hit.
3. Shiva (Chennai 600028 II)
The boys will be back, they said. Shiva will be back with a bang, they never said. Venkat Prabhu is one of the very few directors who could aptly tap the potential of Shiva and he was rollicking with his mannerisms in Chennai 600028 II.
4. Vivek (Kaashmora)
It was a comeback of sorts for Vivek, as he stole the limelight in Kaashmora. Duping as a black magic expert, he brought the roof down with his unique dialogue delivery and vintage expressions.
5. RJ Balaji (Devi)
RJ Balaji became a mainstream comedian this year and his performance in director Vijay's horror movie, Devi, was laudable. Some of the movies did not go his way and with better choice of movies, he can further grow up the ladder.
