Vishal demands an answer from Kalaipuli S Thanu on piracy issue
With the support of Qube, producers are now able to trace the theatres from where piracy is emerging. It has been found out that as many as 7 films including Theri, 24, Inji Iduppazhagi and VSOP were illegally shot at PVR Cinemas, Orion Mall, Bangalore.
Recently, the production house of 24 had cancelled the digital license of screening 24 across PVR theatres in Tamil Nadu. However, Vishal had arranged for a press meet along with producers Gnanavel Raja, Elred Kumar and Rajasekar earlier today and blamed Producers' Council President, Kalaipuli S Thanu for not taking any action against theatres that encourage piracy.
Here are some quick tidbits from the press meet:
- Vishal demanded a reply from Kalaipuli S Thanu on why the council has not taken any action against PVR Cinemas and other theatres for encouraging piracy even after repeated complaints.
- Theatre Owners should install CCTV cameras to catch people who are are involved in creating pirated copies. - Vishal
- Theri was pirated at the same PVR theatre in Bangalore and I wonder why Thanu is unaware of it. Even after one week since the meeting by council, no action has been taken. - Gnanavel Raja
- Due to pirated copies, producers are losing about 80% of the income. - Gnanavel Raja
- Plans are on for bringing original DVDs for sale after 15 days of the movies' release. - Gananvel Raja
- The last resort for those producing movies is to please government. We have no other option but to fast until death. - Gnanavel Raja
- We gave KO 2 to Qube for final trimming and the movie leaked from there. - Elred Kumar
