Top Tamil Heroines of 2015

This year saw a handful of leading ladies making a mark for themselves in the otherwise male dominant film industry. Check out our ranking of the best of them.

1. Nayanthara - Thani Oruvan, Maya, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan

Nayanthara just can't keep a foot wrong these days. Whatever she touches turns gold, literally. With a hat-trick of hits, Nayanthara proves that she is the undisputed numero uno girl of the tinsel town. While she perfectly fitted the bill of a commercial heroine in Thani Oruvan, she stole the show in the horror thriller Maya and came up with an endearing performance as a hearing impaired girl in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.

2. Radhika Prasidhha - Kuttram Kadithal

Radhika Prassidha just lived through the role of the guilty-ridden teacher in Kuttram Kadithal. Although her role was intense, she was a live wire and displayed a gamut of emotions without getting too melodramatic.

3. Nithya Menen - O Kadhal Kanmani

After seeing Nithya Menen in Mani Ratnam's O Kadhal Kanmani, some critics even called her the modern day Revathi. She was bold, beautiful and elegant in the role of an urban independent girl. Who can forget her peppy performance in 'Parandhu Sella Vaa' song?

4. Jyothika - 36 Vayadhinile

It was a dream comeback for Jyothika as she was the cynosure of all eyes in 36 Vayadhinile. Coming back to the limelight after 8 years, Jyothika showed no restraint and she was at her best. The scene in which she gives back to the trollers was a special one indeed.

5. Amyra Dastur - Anegan

Honestly, none really predicted Amyra Dastur to perform this brilliantly in Anegan. She was full of energy and her emotions struck the right chord with the audience. There were certain scenes in which she even outperformed Dhanush, which showed her mettle.

6. Ishwarya Rajesh - Kaaka Muttai

At 25, it was a bold step by Ishwarya Rajesh to go completely deglam and act as a mother of two in Kaaka Muttai. But, her efforts paid off well as her natural and convincing performance won laurels from all quarters.

Notable Mentions

  • Anushka had put on extra kilos to justify her role in Inji Iduppazhagi, which not many actresses would dare to do. She also had her moments in SS Rajamouli's Baahubali.
  • Trisha was classy and grounded in Yennai Arindhaal, just like how Gautham Menon wants his leading ladies to be. Although a short-lived role, she made a lasting impact with her neat performance.
  • Amy Jackson and Samantha did complete justice to their well-written roles in Thanga Magan. While Amy Jackson impressed with an outgoing performance, Samantha scored with her subtlety.
