Ilayaraja's song in Olympics Inauguration?
As part of the Olympic inauguration ceremony to be held in London, there is a medley of 86 songs in various different languages. One of them is rumored to be Ilayaraja's song from early 80s. The sources within Olympic inauguration committee have not confirmed. The song is a lesser known Kabaddi song titled "Naan thaan ongapanda" (நான்தான் ஒங்கப்பண்டா") from Kamal Haasan's Raam Laxman sung by SP Balasubramaniam released in 1981.
Other musicians in that list are Beatles, Amy Winehouse, Rolling Stones along with another Tamilian, Mia, who will be singing Paper Planes. The creative head for developing this inauguration show is Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle who is working on the theme of "Back to Basics". The ceremony is due to take place on July 27, 2012 at the 80,000 capacity Olympic Stadium in Stratford.
