Baahubali Songs - Music Review

Ramesh S Kannan

Baahubali is one of the most expected pan-Indian movies of 2015. The hype around the movie increases multifold with slew of making videos and trailer. Let’s check out whether soundtrack by Maragadhamaniis consistent with the movie’s stature.

Irul KondaVaanil

In Irul Konda Vaanil, Deepika's mellow vocals totally contrast with the revengeful uncredited male singer and the tone of the song is further accentuated by Maragadhamani’s grand symphonic orchestration with string sections which build up to reach crescendo towards the end. Apart from the sweeping strings and deja vu feel in the tune aside, veteran composer mixes beautiful flute portions and sword clanking sounds.

Jeeva Nadhi

Jeeva Nadhi short track which rides mainly on the GeethaMadhuri's soulful rendition aided by MadhanKarky's poignant lyrics. Keeravani kept the orchestration minimal with the help of wailing violins to create a required ambience.

Dheerane

Dheerane is another impressive listen in the album despite the song is filled with contemporary sounds devoid of any periodic feel. RamyaBehera's scintillating vocals and Deepu's vocals blends well with the western pop song like chorus. Maragadhamani's percussion and engaging drums work are the major highlights in the orchestration.

Dheerane (English version)

In Dheerane's English version, composer's arrangements become more stylish where percussion in the original version is replaced by grand piano and other sequencing sounds. The surprise is tune of the song quite fits perfectly to this mod version too and aided well by RamyaBehera's fangled velvety rendition.

Siva Sivaya Potri

Siva Sivaya Potri has rich arrangements driven by the engaging percussion throughout the song amidst the expansive ambience created by Maragadhamani and the percussion reaches crescendo towards the end. Maragadhamani's mighty vocal gel well with the rhythmic tune and VaikomVijayalakshmi’s folksy rendition is an additional asset to the track.

Pachai Thee

Pachai Thee starts off well but the archaic feel in the tune is a great let down for the song which bogs down a lot despiteKarthik and Damini's earnest rendition. However, composer's usage of strings is the only highlight in an otherwise mediocre track in the album.

Manogari

Manogari's strength lies in the hummable tune along with wonderful tribal ambience created by the composer with the help of rhythmic percussion elements and beautiful flute portions. Haricharan and Mohana's singing are top-notch backed by tribal chorus portions. Maragadhamani ends the track with brilliant veena solo of the title tune.

Moochile Theeyumay

Maragathamani once again back to grand orchestration but this time with sinister mood where roaring strings along with trumpet rules the track in the background. KailashKher's Tamil diction at the start of the song is a major drawback in an otherwise perfect track. The song is worth a listen for the arrangements by the composer.

Verdict: Maragadhamani's soundtrack for Baahubali stays true to the aura around the movie-Truly grand and majestic soundtrack which will go well with the magnanimous visuals from S S Rajamouli.
