Inimey Ippadithan - In the Safe Zone

Bharath Vijayakumar

Time and again comedians have tried their luck at playing the lead. Santhanam who now seems quite intent on changing tracks has teamed up with his buddies (Prem Anand and Murugan) from the Lollu Sabha days. ‘Inimey Ippadithan’ sounds ominous and the meaning could go either way depending on the film.

Plot:

Seenu (Santhanam) decides that love is the only way for him to get a beautiful wife. Otherwise he fears that his parents would get him hitched to someone against his wish. From a position of no choice he now faces a problem of plenty as he has to choose between two good looking girls.

Cast:

Santhanam shows noticeable improvement in playing the lead when compared to Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham. He has made sure he sticks within his limitations and Inimey Ippadithan is a decent job well done. His consciousness in the song sequences though is quite apparent. Thambi Ramaiah gets the most screen space after the hero and he does deliver the goods despite being a tad loud at times. The two girls play the template heroines of Tamil cinema.

Direction:

The promotional teasers and posters did look like the film was trying to project Santhanam as larger than life. But the director duo (Muruganand =Prem Anand and Murugan) have kept it simple and made sure that Santhanam never looks out of place. They have not gone all out and have kept things under reasonable control. While there is no single moment that has you in bouts of laughter there are some decent grins sprinkled throughout. They could have definitely had a rethought about the songs though. Despite nothing major to complain about they hardly add any value unless you are really interested to keep your eyes glued on the heroine. While Santhanam made merry all this while by making heroes the butt of all jokes it does look odd when no one takes noticeable digs on him. Here too it is he who takes the honours in dishing out comments on the physical attributes of others. The climax of the film is a definite surprise and manages to pull back some damage caused by the scenes that might have crudely made jokes on apparently unattractive looking people.

Bottomline:

‘Inimey Appadithan’ is one of those films that is a harmless watch. Partly funny and partly non-impacting it is a small but reasonable step forward for ‘Santhanam the hero’.

Rating: 2.5/5
