Yagavarayinum Naa Kaakka Music Review

Ramesh Kannan

Prasn Praveen Shyam bags the big project Yagavarayinum Naa Kaaka directed by Sathya Prabhas after their decent debut album Kamban Kazhagam. Let's check out how well their sophomore album turns out.

Sokkana Ponnu:

Sokkana Ponnu which was already released as a single and intriguingly made promo video makes this song quite popular in online media. Aadhi, movie's protagonist rendered the laid back song in a confident manner. Composers make decent use of keys throughout the song and interesting string sections in the first interlude.

Singari Sokku lady:

It's time for the composers to satiate telugu audiences as the movie is bilingual and lyrics also peppered with hindi and telugu words. Tune of the song is strictly pedestrian and thumping percussions has a signature of Thaman. However, occasional guitar riffs and vocals of Priya Hamesh and Krishna Iyer are enjoyable in an otherwise predictable song.

Papparapampam:

Papparapampam tries hard to be a cool jubilant song. However, it's difficult to strike out the Harris Jayaraj'sh feel of the tune despite Benny dayal and Krishna Iyer's effectual singing. Nadhaswaram sample and the folky twist in the second interlude too didn't lift the tone of the song.

Vidai Vidai:

Vidai Vidai is a frenetic, powerful song in an album and Dr. Narayanan's ebullient singing will elevate the mood in the crucial portion of the movie. Composers use some brilliant flute and string sections apart from the usual percussions one can attribute to the songs of this genre.

Nee Sonna:

Nee Sonna rides mainly on the vocals of Krishna Iyer and the song is decent and passable without any awestruck moments.

Thozha Thozha and Title theme:

Thozha Thozha works for soulful rendition by Elfie choir and orchestration wise sweeping violins with classical touch towards the ends makes an enjoyable combo. Only grouse is the duration of the song. Title track is too short to make any impact.

Verdict:  Being directed by Sathya Prabhas Pinisetty songs has the whiff of telugu album, However Prasan Praveen Shyam second outing is pretty much decent and noticeable after their debut in not-so-famous 2011's Kamban Kazhagam.

Rating: 2.5/5

Pick of the Album:  Sokkana Ponnu, Vidai Vidai, Thozha Thozha
