A Sun Pictures production, Thalaivar 171 (tentative title) is actor Rajinikanth's next after Vettaiyan, and the movie marks the Superstar's first time collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Lokesh has now revealed that Thalaivar 171 will begin in June, 2024, and that Sun Pictures will be unveiling an 'interesting teaser' to mark the commencement of the movie. 

“The pre-production work is on. The film (Thalaivar 171) will go on floors in June. The entire process will take around one and a half years. One month after the completion of Thalaivar 171, we will begin Kaithi 2 with Karthi. So, the work has been going on.” - Lokesh Kanagaraj during the Inimel press interaction

 

Thalaivar 171 has Anirudh Ravichander for music. While the cast and crew of Thalaivar 171 awaits official announcement, Lokesh has clarified that the movie will be a standalone outing, and will have no connection to his Lokesh Kanagaraj Universe (LCU) which encompasses movies like Kaithi (2019), Vikram (2022), Leo (2023) and the upcoming Kaithi 2.
