Settai Preview – SWOT Analysis

‘Settai’, the remake of Bollywood film ‘Delhi Belly’ is all set to hit the screens this Friday (April 5). The movie has a huge star cast including Arya, Santhanam, Premji Amaren, Hansika Motwani and Anjali. The movie is directed by Kannan of ‘Jayam Kondan’ and ‘Kanden Kadhalai’ fame. Music is composed by Thaman.

Strengths

• Director Kannan has the reputation of making technically rich enjoyable family entertainers. Although ‘Delhi Belly’ was a dark comedy, ‘Settai’ has got a clean ‘U’ certificate from the censor board. The makers have made sure that the scenes are altered to suit the family audience.

• Santhanam has not put a foot wrong in recent times. The movie will heavily depend on his witty one-liners and he is expected to keep the audience in splits. The combination of Santhanam, Arya and Premji is much expected.

• There is good buzz around the film, thanks to UTV Productions’ innovative strategies. The song promos and teasers promise us a good entertainer.

Opportunities

• After ‘Mugamoodi’ and ‘Thaandavam’, UTV has shifted their focus more to comical entertainers. They will be hoping for a clean hit with this film as they did last year with 'Kalakalappu'. 

• Arya has ambitious projects in his kitty including Selvaraghavan’s ‘Irandam Ulagam’, untitled Ajith – Vishnuvardhan film and a potentially another big movie. Settai’s box-office success will give a nice ramp to become a bankable hero.

• April 1st week releases have done well in the past as it marks the beginning the summer. Also, there is no real biggie waiting to be released in the next couple of weeks. All that Settai needs to succeed is to get unambiguous 'positive' word of mouth right from the first show.

Threats

• The screenplay has been tweaked to entertain family audience. It was the dark humour scenes that uniquely defined the original version of ‘Delhi Belly’. We will have to see if ‘Settai’ can make the impact after altering the USP in Hindi version.

Final Words

‘Settai’ might turn out to be a youthful entertainer with a highly dependable star cast. Going by the promo visuals, the movie looks technically sound and it is unlikely that Settai will go wrong. Stay tuned for our review!
