Jai Gangaajal Movie Review –Solid Performances but Same Old Story!

The story is based in Bankipur, a district in Central India where there is no law and it is a land of corruption, land grabbing and explotiation by the MLA gundaBablu Pandey (ManavKaul) who has cops like B N Singh (Prakash Jha) in his pocket. SP AbhaMathur (Priyanka Chopra) comes to the rescue of locals in the district! Will she be able to motivate the helpless people and end the reign of Bablu Pandey is what the rest of the story answers. 

Apart from the predictable storyline, what really doesn't work for Prakash Jha is the stylised treatment unlike his previous films. They are very close to real but this has sort of a glamour attached to it which kills the intensity in the most convincing scenes of the film. Even the background score doesn't suit the film at all.

The film thrives on performances from the brilliant cast members which lift the done to death script! Priyanka Chopra is intense, brutal and extremely convincing as the SP. But her make-up deviated from the realism despite her detailed efforts. ManavKaul delivers a fine performance as the destructive MLA. But Prakash Jha is the man to watch out for his role as the corrupt turned good cop! He is expectional is front of the camera combines with his acting skills and perfect dailect. Even the rest of the cast is pretty solid.

In all, there is nothing new in the movie but you could go for it to watch some solid performances.
