Interview With

Vijay Milton

Vijay Milton, an ace Cinematographer and Director, is ready with his next film Goli Soda 2. Amidst his busy travel schedule, he talks to Tamil Dharani on how he handled Goli Soda 2 to meet the expectations of the audience, with the prequel being a huge hit.

Did you ever think Goli Soda would become a brand and you would do Goli Soda 2?

(Laughs) No Tamil, I never thought it would become this big, only after the release I realised how people have received it. And wherever I go, many started asking me for the sequel and here I am with Goli Soda 2.

Goli Soda emphasies on identity, Goli Soda 2 trailer sounded similar. Does it talk about the same thing?

Goli Soda is the first level of identity. Just being one among the crowd doesn't give you an identity; everyone tries to attain a basic level to define their individuality.

Goli Soda 2 showcases how we can widen the same. Any individual finds way to expand the opportunity and reach the next stage in life, that's how this movie is framed.

Any personal experience on the same

Obviously, Tamil you will not stick with Moviecrow for a long time, you will definitely find a way to shift yourself and enhance yourself or you will bring a change in Moviecrow and make it a better one, that's how every person is. I have also seen all stages of life to raise my identity.

Goli Soda is a big hit. Do you feel the pressure?

From the beginning it has been a huge pressure. We all know how it would be difficult to bring back the magic again. The only pressure I had with this movie is Goli Soda being a huge hit. People expect a lot.

Director and Cinematographer at the same time, Is it easy or tough?

(Laughs) Actually it's easy for me as I used to have a close look on the director when I was a cameraman. And I have been repeatedly shouted for not doing my work and having a close look on what a director does. And it has been my habit from day one. Moreover ace directors of our industry know atleast 50% of camerawork and vice versa. It is more like the two sides of a coin.

Tell us about GVM, how was the experience?

When I started writing the story, I felt somebody like Gautham menon would suit this character, but never thought he would be doing it. When I approached him for the character he said he doesn't know to act. I said we shall train him and if we feel it's perfect we shall go ahead. He did everything with ease with the very first shot and he was happy too.

About Samuthirakani's character in the movie

In life, we see a lot of people, some are lucky and some are not. And we do not want to be the latter part. Samuthirakani plays the role of an unfortunate actor. He plays a physically & mentally weak character who talks strong dialogues. I was quite skeptical while pitching the character to him as he is totally an opposite person but he accepted it and he has done a great job.

'Kidaikira vaaipa seriya payanpaduthitaa un vaazhkaiku neethaan muthalaazhi, miss pannita innoruthannoda vaazhkaiku kadaisivaraikum nee thozhiaazhi' - Your dialogues are bold & strong

I read a lot and all these books have helped me through this writing process. May be that's the reason.

What can people expect from Goli Soda 2?

I will tell you what not to expect - no love at first sight, no foreign songs, the villain will not be beaten up by the hero all the time and the villain will not make any ferocious sounds.

All the best Vijay Milton!
