After the stupendous success of Naachiyaar, here comes GV Prakash's next film Sema, produced by Pandiraj and directed by newcomer Vallikanth. The film has attracted a lot of attention, thanks to the popular Sandaali number, composed by Prakash himself. In a crisp conversation with Jyothsna Bhavanishankar for MovieCrow, the young artist talks about Sema, his other projects, his doctorate degree and also his socially responsible posts.
I did not expect it. It came out of the blue. I don't know if I am eligible for it. It was bestowed upon me and I feel I should make myself suitable for it.
After a very serious and intense film like Naachiyaar, Sema will be a relief of sorts and will be a family entertainer. It will be a fun filled film, but not a mindless comedy. It has a script within it and will be a feel good film for sure. It is a village based subject with an interesting storyline that is worth watching in theatres. Usually, in films with rural backdrop, the heroes will not have any job. But in Sema, it is not the case. Both the hero and the heroine work for a living.
Pandiraj sir has written the story and dialogues for this film. We both were supposed to collaborate for a project but it was getting postponed. That's when he asked me if he can use my dates for this film and I said yes. He told me the story and informed that his associate Vallikanth will direct it. I liked it and said yes.
Vallikanth is a very sincere and an organized person. He had completed the film as planned. It is a medium budget film, did the right kind of business and is a proper project. I hope it will be a profitable venture for everyone.
Instead of that project only, we did Sema. But we would definitely do the sequel of Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga in the near future.
I had already worked with him in Enakku Innoru Peru Irukku and he is always fun to be with. In Sema, he will be seen in the entire film, not just in comedy portions alone. He is playing an emotional character too. He will be seen with me in the low and high times. His role will not be like the ones in usual films where friends of heroes come only for certain segments.
Sema is the last album that was released under my composition. After that I never released any of my albums. Sandaali is still appearing in the charts and I am very happy about it. When you see the film, you will enjoy all the songs. After the film's release, Uruttukannalae is going to become a massive hit. Actually Uruttukannalae tune was made for Vetri Maaran film, which I used in Sema.
I am composing for Suriya-Sudha Kongara's next project and that's my next musical. I am almost done with my musical for the film.
My immediate next release would be Kuppathu Raja followed by Adangathey. CG work is happening in 4G and a song is pending in Ayngaran. Shoot of 100% Love is done and just a little patch work is remaining.
I am teaming up with him after eight years. I will be the protagonist in the film and also the music composer. After Veyil and Angadi Theru, this will be an important album as well as film. It will be a significant film politically for India. We are beginning shoot today. I am very sure this film will be one of the important ones from Tamil film industry. As we are coming together after 8 years, expectations are also on the high.
It is a complete musical film. After K Viswanath, Rajiv Menon is the one who is doing a complete musical film. He is well versed in music and can differentiate between ragas. Musically, Sarvam Thala Mayam will be an important film. And the combination of Rajiv Menon and AR Rahman had given us some of the lovely songs in Minsara Kanavu and Kandukondein Kandukondein. The film has come out well and it will be one real musical film in the south. Rajiv is coming back after 17 years.
I voice my concerns in social media and when it becomes noticed, I am happy. According to me, it is just the voice of the public.
